The Elks, officially known as the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE),  is a fraternal order and charitable organization in the United States. Founded in 1868 in New York City by a group of entertainers. The organization quickly evolved from a social club into a nationwide organization dedicated to community service, patriotism, and mutual aid.
